Elisa’s Bar Manager Katie Ingram

The bar is closed for now but the world of cocktails is wide open for those who love to learn. Think you need fancy tools? Think again as Katie provides bar tool substitutes you’ll easily find in your kitchen. There’s never been a better time to flex your creative muscle and let your inner at-home bartender shine. A twist on the classic Penicillin, Katie offers up her Amoxicillin in both spirit-forward and zero-proof variations, featuring bright citrus flavours. Here’s to our strong, healthy future.

TURMERIC HONEY SYRUP

  • 500 g honey
  • 250 ml hot or boiling water
  • 2 tsp ground turmeric

Combine all ingredients on the stove top over medium heat. Stir until the honey is dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.

AMOXICILLIN

Before we get started, let’s take a moment to find the right tools. If you don’t own a shaker tin, a 500 ml mason jar with a lid or tight sealing Tupperware container will do nicely. No Hawthorne strainer at home? Use the container’s lid to strain your cocktail from the shaking ice and into your glassware. If you’re missing a traditional jigger, simply use measuring spoons.

Serves 1

Spirit-Forward Variation

  • 3 tbsp or 1.5 oz London Dry gin
  • 1 tbsp or .50 oz fresh orange juice
  • 4 tsp .75 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 4 tsp .75 oz turmeric honey
  • 2 dashes of Bittered Sling Kensington bitters or Angostura bitters

Combine all ingredients into a shaker tin or mason jar. Fill with ice and give it a hard shake for 5 to 10 seconds. Strain your cocktail into a chilled rocks glass filled with fresh ice and garnish with a citrus wheel.

Zero-Proof Variation

  • 3 tbsp or 1.5 oz London Dry gin
  • 1 tbsp or .50 oz fresh orange juice
  • 4 tsp .75 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 4 tsp .75 oz turmeric honey
  • 2 dashes of Bittered Sling Kensington bitters or Angostura bitters

Combine all ingredients into a shaker tin except for the soda water/kombucha. Fill your shaker tin or mason jar with ice and give it a hard shake for 5 to 10 seconds.  Add the soda water or kombucha to your tin or jar and give it a good swirl to combine. Strain your cocktail into a chilled tall glass filled with fresh ice and garnish with a citrus wheel.
