West: The Cookbook wins World Gourmand Award

National finalists for the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards were recently announced, with West: The Cookbook winning the category of ‘Most Innovative Cookbook in Canada’.

Founded in 1995, these awards are the largest and most diverse competition of their kind. More than 102 countries will be represented in the final competition, where international winners will be announced in London in May, 2009. We look forward to sharing the results with you at that time.

Published by Douglas & McIntyre, West: The Cookbook is available at leading booksellers, including Barbara-jo’s Books to Cooks and Edible BC. Copies autographed by the team are available at the restaurant or online.

West wins Wine Enthusiast’s Award of Unique Distinction

West is one of ‘a select number of restaurants in North America to be honoured with our highest recognition,’ Wine Enthusiast magazine said in its recent award letter. ‘It represents your dedication to delivering the most wine-friendly experience to your patrons.’

We join those patrons in offering congratulations to wine director Owen Knowlton, restaurant director Brian Hopkins, and bar manager David Wolowidnyk, as well as West’s brigade of well-informed servers.

Brian Hopkins nominated for BCRFA Hall of Fame

The West team is also pleased to announce that restaurant director Brian Hopkinshas been recognized for his consummate skills in hospitality and bonhomie by the British Columbia Restaurant & Foodservices Association (BCRFA).

In 2007, these prestigious awards saluted Top Table proprietor Jack Evrensel in the ‘Active Restaurateur’ category.

Brian is a finalist in the ‘Front of House’ category and, although the competition is fierce, we wish him the very best of luck at the annual awards dinner, convening in Vancouver on March 30, 2009.

Superb dishes showcasing modern interpretations of classic combinations are offered at Vancouver’s perennial ‘Restaurant of the Year’. Martinis and cocktails are pressed-to-order and the highly awarded wine collection is housed in a magnificent, temperature-controlled wall of wine. 2881 Granville Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. 604 738 8938.
