Vancouver, BC. – at the eighteenth annual Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, held on Monday April 16th 2007 at the Sheraton Wall Centre, over 700 industry professionals gathered to hear the conclusions of the Vancouver magazine judges: eighteen aficionados sampled and sipped, then pooled their expertise to deliver results in a range of categories that represent the city’s vibrant and diverse food scene.

Of all the categories, that of ‘Restaurant of the Year’ is the most prestigious and hotly contended honouring the best overall in the city. This year, for the first time in its five year history Yaletown’s Blue Water Cafe was honoured to be elevated to one of Vancouver’s top three dining rooms “based partly on chef Frank Pabst’s new ‘Unsung Heroes’ menu” says the magazine, but also in recognition of its “rigorous discipline with new flair from the kitchens”. Blue Water Cafe is runner up to silver winner Lumiere and three time gold winner West.

Blue Water Cafe also collected the silver award for ‘Best Seafood’ where judges again praised the talents of Executive Chef Frank Pabst, but also acknowledged Raw Bar chef Yoshi Tabo who “continues to run a disciplined counter, supplemented with rafter-climbing plateaux de mer and fine oysters” (Vancouver magazine)

Commended again in the ‘Best Service’ category, the restaurant received an honourable mention with kudos going to Restaurant Director Stephan Cachard who’s professionalism, drive and impeccable standards have been shaping the front of house team since he took the helm in 2002.

Vancouver magazine also reported the winners of the recent Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival who bestowed a ‘Gold Award’ to Blue Water Café’s carefully compiled and in depth wine collection. Sommelier Chris Van Nus was deigned ‘Vancouver’s Sommelier of the Year’ by the International Sommelier Guild for his extraordinary palate and deep knowledge. “The best performers are the ones who understand their audience” reports the magazine underscoring Chris’ service philosophy to always be attuned to his guests preferences and desires before leading them to discover new wine experiences.
