When wine director Andrea Vescovi toured Chile’s leading wineries in 2009, he made sure to visit Viña Errázuriz. Although he had enjoyed their wines for many years, this was his first opportunity to meet with their winemaking team. Andrea says, “These wines represent Chile at its finest – there is finesse, elegance and complexity in every bottle.” Indeed, the 130-year old winery, located 100 kilometres north of Santiago, is now operated by fifth generation Eduardo Chadwick, who practices natural, modern viticulture in the Aconcagua, Casablanca and Curicó valleys.

Old World meets New in this fascinating comparison of Drouhin wines from both their Burgundy and Willamette Valley estates. And while more than 6,000 kilometres separate the terroirs, some similarities—gained over four generations of fine winemaking—will resonate in this ‘ultimate horizontal’ evening of side-by-side tastings.
The Drouhin’s roots go deep under Burgundy. Founded in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin is centered in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits domaines and is known around the world for its Premier and Grand Crus. Following their inaugural Oregon vintage in 1988, they became equally adept at expressing the best of New World pinot noir and chardonnay. Véronique Drouhin-Boss received her National Diploma of Œnology from the Université de Bourgogne-Dijon and obtained an advanced degree (Diplôme Supérieur de Recherche) for her work on the pinot noir grape varietal. She now divides her time between Burgundy and Oregon.
