Blue Water Cafe Receives Elite Recognition as One of Robb Report’s 100 Favourite Restaurants Worldwide

Vancouver, BC – In the May issue of Robb Report, a preeminent publication capturing the luxury market for over 30 years, a distinguished group of vintners lists Yaletown’s Blue Water Cafe among an elite group of 100 favourite restaurants worldwide.

Blue Water Cafe is one of only two Canadian restaurants mentioned, positioning it alongside gastronomic greats such as Alain Ducasse’s Beige, Tokyo; Grant Achatz’s Alinea, Chicago; Charlie Trotter’s, Chicago; El Bulli, Spain; The French Laundry, Yountville, California; and Le Gavroche, London.

Describing the list of restaurants, senior editor Sheila Gibson Stoodley, who orchestrated the feature’s production, remarked “the food is fantastic and is worth driving hundreds of miles for”.

Paying tribute the wine collection carefully complied by wine director Andrea Vescovi, the magazine credits “many sakes” on the list. “But the head-turning choice,” the Robb Report writes, “is the Blue Water Tower: three tiers of iced fish, shellfish and samplings,” a salute to the combined talents of executive chef Frank Pabst and “sushi master” Yoshihiro Tabo.

Recently awarded Gold for ‘Best Seafood’ at the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, critics praised Pabst’s “expert, understated way with wild and sustainable species,” as well as “faultless sushi from Yoshihiro Tabo”.

Earlier this year at The Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival Wine List Awards, Blue Water Cafe was among only three restaurants overall to receive the top honour of the inaugural Platinum Award, introduced this year to recognize those wine programs which have excelled into an elite echelon of their own.
